Up, up, and away!

Disclaimer: This isn’t a movie review—just a personal reflection after watching my favorite superhero’s latest film.

The day finally arrived—we were off to the theater to see the new Superman movie! You might be wondering why he’s my favorite. It’s because, as we all know, he stands for hope, truth, and justice—heroism, selflessness, compassion, and kindness. He embodies the very best of what humanity can aspire to be, showing that even those with incredible power can choose to act with integrity and heart. But more than anything, he’s my favorite because he’s the only superhero who can turn back time. To me, that symbolizes something deeply meaningful: the idea that even when we make mistakes, we can learn from them—and, sometimes, even find a way to make things right.

I'm a fan of Nicholas Hoult, so I was really looking forward to seeing his take on Lex Luthor. As for David Corenswet, I hadn’t heard of him before. Out of curiosity, I started watching some of his previous movies and TV series—and it didn’t take long before I became a fan.

David is a talented actor who won me over with his warm voice and those charming dimples. Watching his interviews, I could also sense a genuine kindness in him, which made me root for him even more. By the time we went to see the movie, I had already fully embraced him as the new Superman. In fact, he’s now my phone’s wallpaper—LOL!

While my sister was buying our movie tickets, my niece, nephew, her husband, and I were busy debating which sizes of popcorn and sodas to get. That’s when something caught my eye—movie memorabilia, especially the popcorn holder. But wait, there was more: a collectible popcorn tin and themed tumblers! You can probably guess what happened next—I didn't need to be convinced; we ended up getting all of them in support of the new Superman movie...

At the theater, I reminded myself to go in with no expectations and just enjoy the film. David was amazing as Superman, though I do wish we’d seen more of him as Clark Kent. I agree with some of the reviews: this version of Superman does come across as a bit weaker, often needing help from the Justice Gang and Krypto. Which, to me, says that we all need a little help from friends. The movie also shows that good deeds left unpunished, and how we forget to be grateful.

My favorite line from the movie:

"I am as human as anyone else. I love, I feel fear, I stumble, and I rise. Every morning, I wake up not always knowing what the day holds or the right steps to take, but I keep moving forward—one foot in front of the other, doing my best to make the right choices. I mess up, often, but that’s part of being human. And, to me, that’s my greatest strength."

He captured the essence of how many of us feel. As for me, I wake up each day with gratitude in my heart. Like Superman, I keep moving forward—one step at a time, one day at a time. I may not always know what lies ahead or which path is best, but I strive to be the best, kindest version of myself—even when it’s hard.

Through it all, I remain truly thankful for the comfort of a happy home to return to each day. Whatever challenges come my way, I will face them head-on, unwavering in my resolve.

With my head held high and my faith steady, I’ll keep paddling forward and soar, up, up, and away!
