Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Winter is my favorite season because of the snow. I love snow but am not keen on driving on it. My first time seeing snow was in October 1998 in South Dakota. Growing up in the Philippines, I thought snow was a make-believe, something that I could only see on a Christmas card sent by a relative from the US; not to mention, I watched the making of Little Women and saw how the "make-believe" snow was used on the film.  When the snow started falling, my officemates, who knew I hadn't seen snow, excitedly encouraged me to go out. Oh my Lord, I did go out, and when the first snow landed on me, I screamed, it's real, it's real, snow is real and was very emotional! I spent the rest of the day after work playing in the snow and taking pictures (of course).

It was a tough winter in South Dakota with the blizzard and snowstorm. And oh boy, oh boy, it was bitterly cold. I experienced layering up going to work (3-4 layers of clothes, thermal pants, parka, winter boots, snow hat, gloves, ear muffs); sometimes, my eyes were the only ones not covered. But it was magical, with the place all covered in snow.

Fast-forward to 2005. Snow in Spokane is not as bad as in South Dakota. At least I did not have to layer up as much—just two layers of clothes, and I got to wear Ugg shoes. Perhaps I got used to the cold of South Dakota, and Spokane's cold is nothing.

I look forward to winter for the snow and the cold weather every year. Is it because snow makes people kinder and more tolerable? Or is it because there's that possibility that operations are suspended, and I get to stay home and not worry about driving to work on the slippery roads, and I can work from home? ^-^ I also like the cold weather because of the fashion - sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, and boots!

Winter 2024 has been a warm winter, so we haven't had the chance to build a proper snowman. We've had a mix of rain and snow, a flurry, and occasionally snow that doesn't stick and melts immediately. My nephew and niece, however, managed to play in the snow a little and built a Roblox snowman.

There's something about watching the snow, the kind that looks like it's raining cotton balls (my favorite type of snow), that warms my heart, gives me peace, and feels magical. So, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow ...
